QuestionQUESTION: Hello, I have two small painted turtles. They both have a "film" on their extremities. It is not on their shells and the shells appear to be fine. I have been keeping an eye on it for the past few days and this "film" seems to come off eventually in the water. Their habits have not seemed to change; they are still eating, swimming, and basking like normal. After looking on the internet about this, I wondered if they had shell rot, but I'm not sure. I don't want to treat them for the wrong thing. Thanks for any help you can give.
ANSWER: Hello this sounds to be a fungus. What is the housing like for them? What are the temps?

QUESTION: Thank you for getting back to me. I have about a 55 gallon tank. I keep it about 1/2 to 2/3 full. I have a place for them to come completely out of the water with an ExoTerra 60W Daylight lamp that is kept on for about 9-10 hours. I have the heater set at 76 degrees. I clean the tank about once a month as it doesn't get very dirty. Should I be cleaning it or at least adding new water more often? After looking more on the internet, could this possibly be shedding? Please let me know if I should be doing anything differently or if I need something else for the tank. Again, thank you very much!
AnswerHi thanks for the prompt reply. They can get a fungus and it not effect the daily activity. It is normal that they continue on unless it is bad. You can read more here
