pls help

i have a turtle (male 4 1/2inches)and i just brought a female one but the female i very small compared to the male but they appear to be mating how long will it take to lay eggs as it is only 2 inches big n i keep them in a tank so wat shud i do 2 help da female lay her eggs

I really need to know the species to help here. If, for example, it is a Red-ear slider, it won't successfully mate until about 4" long, but smaller turtles will mock-mate as a result of overcrowding.
