Question
I was recently handed a turtle by a friend who was emigrating but was left very little info on how to look after it. After doin some research i think the turtle is a yellow belly. I was concerned that it always seems hungry and splashes the water aggresively until it is given food and has started to eat its own feaces. I am currently feedin it complete turtle and terrapin food which includes food pellets, ocean shrimp, freeze dried river shrimp and krill as well as frozen prawns. the length of its shell is approx 7 to 8 in. i was wondering if this is the right food and and how much and when should i feed it? Also i would be grateful if you could pass on any more info eg size of tank, required water temperature, type of filter, lighting required, contents of tank, behaviour symptoms etc cos at the moment i am absolutely clueless and am worried in case im damaging this turtle. many thanks

Answer
Hi Daniel, the care of the Yellow Belly Slider is the same of the Red Ear Slider so finding care sheets on Red ear Sliders will help answer almost all of your questions. However if he is wild caught which it sounds like then you need to take it to an animal rescue. The food items are ok I suggest feeding him them until he is full.

Here is a care sheet and great informative site on RES turtles

Good luck
