Question
QUESTION: my sisters turtle has red scars on it neck, legs and arms they look like scars from the shell but I dont know can you tell me what that means and is it dangerous?

ANSWER: Hello Tahgi,

I am not sure what you mean by red scars, did they appear all of a sudden or did you get him and he already had these red areas?

Do you know what kind of turtle he is?

It doesn't sound like anything to be worried about but I can tell you more about it if I have all the information.

QUESTION: Actually I believe he has had these red marks all along, but they seem to be more evident now. He is not doing anything out the ordinary. They do sleep alot.  I can send you a picture of them both. I do not know what type of turtle he is. My mom bought them when she vacationed in Florida. Daytona Beach. I believe they are two different types of turles. The one with the red marks seems to not be growing.

Answer
Hi Tahgi,

It sounds like he is a Red Ear Slider Turtle those are sold all the time in Florida.

Here is a link with Red Ear Slider information and pictures:

If that is the turtle then the red marks are nothing to worry about.

A picture would be very helpful send it to reptilianyex@live.com

Thanks
Good luck
