Answer
Hinge-backs are considered a tricky group. The thing is that this group loves and needs incredibly high humidity along with the jungle-like warmth. Many reports talk about them eating during warms rains. They also eat a lot of worms, carrion, insects, etc. in the wild.

There are two main groups of tortoises- the grassland species, and the forest species. Grasslanders may or may not hibernate depending on species and where they come from. NO forest species hibernates- although they may go partially dormant in some parts of their range during hot, dry weather. Red-foots (another forest species) may also go partially dormant in the very southern portion of their range in cold weather.

Good luck!
