Question
I just bought a baby redfoot 2 days ago and i put him in his tank with the
cypress bedding and the proper lighting, and humidity and food and the
water dish and the hide. but everytime i try to fix something or go near him
he hisses at me and jumps...
why is this and is there anything i can do to resolve this? because i just wanna
love it and care for it and raise it well.
I don't want him to grow up mean and grouchy. please help me resolve
this!!!!!

Answer
Hello Facia,

Maybe you'll find this answer rather boring, but the fact is:
The only thing that helps, to make the tortoise get used to you, is to spend a lot of time with it. Give him some pellets on the floor outside the vivarium or let him sit with you in the couch - or anything else. As long as you spend time with it.

Also remember two important things:
- All tortoises are scared and tensed when they come to a new home - so be patient. It might take a few weeks before he gets used to you.
- Use slow and calm movements. Fast movements scares both tortoises and turtle!

Best wishes
