worming my tortoises

Question
my vet did fecals on my cherryhead tortoises, and found them to have whipworms and roundworms.  I have the dosages and the panacur, but how do I get it into them.  The vet was clueless.
Thank you

Answer
Panacur is usually available as a 'oral suspension' (gritty liquid) or as granules (coarse powder).

If you have the granule or tablet form, I'd crush it to a powder and roll some melon, banana, etc. in it. If you have the oral suspension, I'd drip some on some 'moist' fruit- again, melons, etc. I've also had luck sprinling meds on a lot of other items- tomatos, berries, etc.

Some keepers have the best luck only serving dosed food, then offering other food later. This helps ensure the tort gets the entire dose in a timely fashion. The problem is that if the meds have a taste, the tort might refuse the rest of the food.

Some give it a light meal with the dose spred throughout the foods- a little here, a little there...

I do think it is easier if your tot is used to some vitamin and calcium supplements sprinkled on its food sometimes.

You can try to force feed it the meds, but personally I have never had luck with that.
