Question
MY BROTHER HAS A RED EARED TURTLE AND HE HAS HAD IT FOR 2-3 MONTHS. ON SATURDAY...I WENT OVER AND LOOKED AT HIM. I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A WHITE THIN STRING COMING OUT OF HIS RECTUM. IT LOOKED AS IF WERE STUCK. FINALLY HE MANAGED TO TAKE IT OFF BUT THEN HE ATE IT AGAIN. THEN AN HOUR LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN. WE WANT TO TAKE HIM TO A VET BUT THERE IS NOT VET CLOSE BY. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF HE HAS WORMS? IS THIS NORMAL? WHAT CAN MY BROTHER DO ABOUT THIS? IS IT DANGEROUS? THANKS FOR TAKING SOME TIME OUT OF YOUR SCHEDULE TO READ THIS.

Answer
Background details??? He's had it for 2-3 months from where???

I don't know if it has worms. It's always possible, especially if it's a wild caught turtle. But you didn't tell me whether it was.

I don't know if it's normal. I don't know what it is yet, because you didn't tell me this turtle's origin or any of the other background/environment information.

If this is a wild caught turtle, it should be let go exactly where it was found after being taken to a vet and checked out, or it should be turned over to a rehabilitator/rescue. What your brother can do about this is take it to a vet or rehabilitator. That's all I can say about the information given. There are people who have the job of taking care of animals, and I suggest he find one.
