Greek tortoise bedding

Question
I have a golden greek tortoise, I am wondering what kind of bedding would be best suited for him.  I am leaning toward sand but I have read about impaction if it is ingested, what do you think?  Also, there are many kinds of sand available for purchase, which type would you reccomend?

Answer
Indoors? Most people prefer a sand and organic matter mix- loam, leaf litter, sphagnum moss, shredded barks, Soaked Bed-A-Beast, etc. I like about a 50/50 mix- by weight- of soft organic matter (usually Bed-A-Beast type stuff when I can get it) to clean play sand. Make up about a 2" layer.

Go light on the sand at first, then add it a little at a time until you have a good mix that holds some water, but is not muddy or smelly.
