my little terrapin is always hiding under the seashell i gave him to climb onto to bask on. Is something wrong?

I can't say whether or not your turtle is sick... only a vet can determine that.  However, turtles do need a place to hide.  Animals that are kept as pets always need a place to hide because it is so stressful to be "in view" all the time.

You can try decorating his tank to look more like a forest if you want to give him more places to hide.
