Painted Turtles

I have a painted turtle in a 50 gallon aquarium. I just was given another painted turtle that is a little smaller. Is it safe to put hem both in the same tank? I am not sure if painted turtles are aggressive to each other.

It may be fine. 50 is a bit tight for most turtles, but Painteds are a little on the small side.

You probably won't see active aggression, but look for domination- one taking all the food, hogging the besting basking sites, chasing or blocking the other, etc. This would be a warning sign that they probably need more room. One actively biting the other is a bad sign that they are really crowded.
