Question
QUESTION: whats up Jamie? my turtles skin has been excessively peeling off. well it just hangs off his skin and hes constantly trying to scratch it off.. especially around his tail. at first it was only peeling on his neck but now its peeling everywhere. I've been scooping out the skin that does get off and its a yellow color. he seems fine with exception to the peeling. it seems to bother him. i was feeding him gold fish. i would buy about 20-30 at a time after i saw he was big enough to eat then. to be honest i think i might have been over feeding my turtle gold fish just because me and my roommates find it amusing when he chases and devours them. but now i think that could be a problem. what should i do Jamie? thank you.

ANSWER: Hello George, This sounds like a fungus. Could you please tell me about your set up and heat and lights?

QUESTION: Fungus sounds bad. well i have a 20 gallon tank with a filter installed. half of the tank is land made by rocks with a bigger rock for it to bask. he spends most of the time in the water. i dont really have a heating system. i did buy a special light bulb but it blew out and havent replaced it. i received the turtle through an ex roommate who didnt care for it much when it was very small so i became the care taker. i didnt expect to end up spending so much money on the turtle but as i see now it requires a lot of care taking.

Answer
Hello, yes they are high maintanence lol.
So you can take him outdoors for a few hrs a day that will replace the uvb that the lights provide. You can use a standard household bulb in a case that will provide heat. Generally a fungus can be caused by several things such as the water not being clean, temps being to low
You can google salt used for clearing fungus on aquatic turtle, that will walk you through the step  by step process. Also remember htere is no replacement for a vet visit. It sounds to me like you really canre about hte turtle.
