Question
QUESTION: Hello,

I have 2 res turtles a few months old. After i used for a day a new full spectrum lamp that i bought for them one of my turtles had troubled opening her eyes. I was then told that the lamp that i used was too powerful for them. I removed this lamp. The past few days i remove the sick turtle and put it in a small tank where i give her regular eye drops. I leave her in a dry place for about an hour and then i put her back in her tank. I try to do this 3 times a day. I noticed that when i move her to a dry place she opens her eyes and she is eating. The problem is that she has her eyes closed many hours and she is not so energetic as she used to be. I also ordered the product zoo med eye drops and i am waiting for it's delivery.
Her eyes are not always closed, she opens them up sometimes and she is eating. Her eyes i think are not swollen.
What do you think is the problem and how can i help her?

Many thanks!!

ANSWER: Hello Kyriakos,
Does your turtle have a complete diet? I wonder if she is having a vitamin A issue. Perhaps you can offer her some fresh green food like hybiscus, and sprinkle powder vitamoons on it.
If this isnt effective, please tell me what kind of filtration you are using. Perhaps the water isnt getting clean enough for her and it is causing eye irratitions, Please let me know so I can assist.

QUESTION: Hello,

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried to offer them cabbage but they were not very excited with it. I think they didn't it. Then i was told that they were too young for this kind of food and that they will like it when they become older. So now i feed them from a 3 different brands of commercial food because i was told that they need variety. The one brand i use is suitable for babies turtles. If you need the brands i can send them to you when i get home.

Concerning the filter, i am using the kind of filter that use the carbon pilow, sponge and the white tubes that i do not know their name.I do partial water changes every week and every 3 weeks a full tank cleaning. I feed them in a different tank so that i can keep their main tank clean.

So you suggest that i give them fresh green food with vitamins on it? What kind of vitamins should i offer them? Should i continue to give her the eye drops? I have been giving her the eye drops for 2 days.

Many thanks!!

ANSWER: Hey there.  Cabbage and spinache are to high in oxolates whoic can cause them to not digest calcium. It interferes and can cause issues. Id recommend fresh greens like collards. Hybiscus is wonderful dandelions things like that.  Are you removing chemicles from the water as well?
You can also offer cuddle bone like bords eat this helps as well.
You can give them the powder substance which makes up for what is not in the offered diet.  You can also consider iffering fresh feeder fish, the little golf sifh. The exercise is good fo rtem while chasing the fish and then as well as offer dietary assistance.

Please let me know if i can assist more

Answer
First please let me say there is no such thing as a silly question when askling about the turtles well being. That is why Im here as well as many other people assisgned to certain areas.

You can go to teh pet store but a dechlorinator and add to the water each water change or add. This takes out allt eh hard chemicles in the water.
