-----Question-----
hi i have a 6months red footed tortoise. he eats a good meal everyday. he also recieves good unfiltered sunlight everytime the sun is out(6-8hrs/day). also the humidity is maintained at 70% - 80%. he also drinks a lot of water.  he also defacates regularly. i feed him every day with a variety of 6 vegetables (endive, collards as the base) and some tortoise pellets with fiber and vitamins, and also fruits like grapes, papaya, mango once in a while.  once a week i also dust his food with calcium power.

then just today my maid noticed to "rice sized" stuff on my torts dropping which she claims to be blood.  the "rice sized" stuff are solid stuff and needed to be washed with water in order to be cleaned as it sticks in the torts feeding plate according to her.

i also remembers 1 week ago that i dusted too much calcium powder...did it scratch his tummy?
i also didnt feed the tort anything red.
what the problem?

tnx

Your basic cares sound OK. The diet may want a little tweaking (this is my favorite diet article- http://www.petdoc.ws/TortDiet.html)

I doubt that a little too much calcium powder could cause much trouble unless the stuff is pretty dang scratchy.

Rice-size dark things that are really sticky may be worms, especially if it was wild-caught rather than captive bred.

Answer
Captive-bred can still get worms- usually from other tortoises droppings in the original pen it lived in before you got it, or at the breeders, etc. Red-foots just seem prone to certain worms.

I am also not a vet, and I am just going by a sheer guess from your description- I don't even know what color the things were.

If it is a one-time thing or a rare event, I would not worry about it much. If you start seeing it more often, I'd see a vet.

Good luck!
