Question
I have 2 sliders got them when they were size of a quarter . I ve had them 4 years want to give them to someone who will take good care of them . Also have been thinking about putting them in a local pond, but I dont know if they would live very long . So do you think they would live in pond ?  Or know of someone or some place would take them ?

Answer
Hi Debbie,

Please don't even consider releasing them into a local pond.  For one thing, it's illegal in many if not most states, and for another, the reason the RES is an invasive species worldwide is because so many people got tired of them as pets and decided they'd just "return them to the wild."  Now they're decimating local turtle, fish, and other species populations, and are becoming a huge problem.  I'm sure you don't want to add to the problem.  Check to see if you have a herp society or rescue nearby, and contact them for advice on what to do.  You may have to be patient, because rescues are overrun with RES, but with any luck you'll eventually be able to find them a good home.
