Question
QUESTION: hi! i have a huge problem, my sugar gliders stink. they are fairly healthy, get the 50% protein (tofu, meat, egg etc) and thje 50% veggies (something different everyday, whatever's on sale cucumbers, carrots, grapes, beets, mixed italian veggies, green beans, watermelon, cantalope. No spices, no garlic, no onions) And i change the bottom every 2 or 3 days so the male doesn't going peeing happy all over the place to make his point across. It's been bad though these last couple of weeks. I have one male, one female mother. And the two female joeys are just ready to sell now, they'll be 3 months old next week. But they stink. the house reeks of poo. i keep a tidy house, no dirty dishes, laundered clothes once a week, no air freshners. I'm not a dirty person (i think), and so i can;t think of anything except for these sugar gliders. Can you help?

ANSWER: Sugar Glider males scent-mark their territory.  They have special scent glands for this, they don't use urine.  Neutering can help, but you can't completely eliminate the odor.  Keeping the cage clean is your best way to reduce the odor.  I hope this helps.

Answer
You need to take the cage outside and hose it down and scrub it.  You can buy something called Maintenance Solutions Fresh Breeze RTU Detergent and Disinfectant to clean the cage.  This can be purchased through sugar-gliders.com.  You also need to launder any pouches, toys, etc.
