Male babies

Question
Hi, My mating pair of gliders just had a pair of male gliders. (brothers!) We are so happy. We have been holding the babies as much as possible. My question is... Can male brothers be kept together long? We were thinking.... when they are old enough to be away from mom and dad, getting them their own cage and not putting them with other females. I don't want to keep getting babies. Then I was going to have my mating male fixed. But I am not sure if two males can live together without fighting. What are your thoughts on this? Also what if it were two female sisters? Could they live together without a male? I really only want two giders and not an over populated colony. Thanks for your advise in advance.  ~~Shar~~

Answer
Congratulations!

Yes, brothers can get along with each other. Since they grew up together, generally they won't have the dominance issues. You will come into trouble, however, if you try to introduce a female into the mix.  Then hormones will kick in, and they will fight.

Sisters usually get along beautifully, even with a male.

Of course, Sugar Gliders have their own personalities, and I could be completely wrong with your particular gliders.  I can only tell you what has happened in my experience.

The joeys will need to stay with the family at least eight weeks.  They could stay for about four months.  You'll need to set them up in their own cage before they mature.

Good luck!  Let me know how it goes.
