Question
QUESTION: I have a 8 week old baby not eating on her own when I get her to eat its baby food or formula. What amount shoud she be eating each time she eats.

ANSWER: Kimberly,

Eight weeks is old enough to eat soft solid foods.  I strongly suggest you make her some BML.  My recipe can be found on my website: nc.sugar.gliders.googlepages.com.  She can also have eggs, yogurt, applesauce, bananas, grapes, and other foods that are not too hard for her baby teeth. Be sure she gets enough protein and calcium.  If you give her the BML first, you can be sure she is getting what she needs, even if she doesn't eat much.  It's hard to say how much is enough, but I think a teaspoon or two should probably be sufficient for such a small glider.  Adults generally eat about a tablespoon of BML, maybe more.

I hope this helps.  Good luck!

Betty

QUESTION: I was told she was 8 weeks, her eyes are open and she jumps around she has fur on her tail but its not bushy like my adult. She really doesn't eat on her own I have to hold her head in place and she will lick my fingure with baby food on it or lick milk out of the palm of my hand. I figure she is eating about 1/4 to 1/3 of a teaspoon of food and lick up about the same in milk. She has only been away from her mom for 24 hours what should I look for if this is not enough food.

Answer
Kimberly,

I wrote an answer to this question, but it is coming back to me as unanswered.  From your description, I believe that your baby is much less than 8 weeks OOP.  Is she eliminating on her own?  By this I mean urinating and creating stools.  If not, you need to rub her little private parts with a Q-tip soaked in warm water.  Do this ASAP, as they cannot survive long without getting rid of waste products.  Give her watered down BML and other soft foods such as scrambled eggs, yogurt, applesauce, and other things that she can eat with her little baby teeth.  Be sure she is getting enough water, protein, and calcium.

Good luck, please keep in touch,

Betty
