Questionhey jennifer
i have three red tail boas in a huge custom enclosure two of which i rescued from pretty bad situations last night in feeding my girls in the usual fashion none of them wanted to eat so as usual i just let them lay overnight when i woke up this morning to check on the girls on of the rats had chewed on one of them pretty bad why would a snake who is usually a very aggressive eater allow a rat to chew on her for a long period of time? and what is the best antiibiotic to use on the girls
AnswerHi Sean
It's hard to pinpoint why snakes let a rodent bite on them. But it is a very common occurance. I have seen many a snake come in to be treated for rat bites and they can cause quite an infection. You are welcome to treat your girls with Neosporion ointment once a day. Apply with a Q-tip gently. But keep an eye on the wound. If it doesn't start healing within a week you really will need to take her to a Veterinarian who specilizes in reptiles. She might end up needing antibiotics. Good luck and take care :-)
