buying a snake

hi i have recently thought about buying a snake, and i was wonder what kinds of snakes grow to be only about 8-10 inches

There isn't many that are available that only grow that big, the shortest I'm finding are certain kinds of Sand Boas, and their minimum are 16 inches. VERY cool snakes. http://www.kingsnake.com/sandboa/eryx.html

Some that don't require much room are Ribbon Snakes and Garter Snakes. Both will eat a variety of prey (Though I have found that minnows are a favorite) and don't need more than a 10-20 gallon tank at max when full grown.
