Question
Our long tailed lizard has not been nearly as active over the past two days, 'sleeping' alot, has a bulge at/by the base of its tale, unable to close its mouth completely, seems to have a 'skin' build up in the corners of its mouth. Its tongue has two thin dark stripes on it as well.  What is wrong? what should we do?

Answer
Donna,   It sounds to me like an obstruction. They dehydrate very fast so make sure you soak him. I would go and get some mineral oil and give him a couple drops from the eyedropper. It could be a respiratory infection but, I don't think so. The skin as you say around his mouth would be more mucous like. The tongue sounds like the blockage is causing some kind of pressure that is blocking his normal blood flow. If you can find a vet I would take him there now because they go so fast. I am sorry. In the meantime hurry with the oil and hope it helps. If you hold him listen for wheezing. Let me know how things go. Good Luck, Tina
