Question
QUESTION: I have an 8 month old bearded dragon whom is going into his hibernating process. and recently his stomach has turned pink, he just shed about a week ago so i Know its not that. it has never done this before so i was wondering if you knew why he was turning pink
thank you
Julie

ANSWER:  Is your dragon a high color morph or the normal wild colors?  What has he eaten?  Any fruit or dragon pellets?  It could be natural for a high color morph, or a stain from food or if you use a colored particulate substrate.  If none of the above, you may want to have him checked by a vet just to ease your mind.  But, a beardie belly turning pink on its own is something I've not run across.

QUESTION: He is a citrus dragon so hes the orangeish color after a shedding. the only fruit he has had was some banana a while ago and no pellets. he eats mostly wax worms, crickets, and broccoli. and his stomach is not pink all the time, just occasionally i will pick him up and its pink, but under his little arm pits, its pink all the time....any more ideas?

Answer
Citrus is a high color morph, and at 8 months old, it may be a part of his coloring.  Most beardie bellies are white, but I have a hypomelanistic adult with orange on his belly.  It may change again or get deeper with succeeding sheds.
I am concerned about his diet though. Bananas have too much phosphorus for a reptile and broccoli is part of the brasssica family and can cause thyroid problems.  Waxworms have little nutrition and too much fat.
He needs high calcium greens, collards, dandelions, turnip greens, mustard greens, and veggies like winter squashes, green beans, snap beans and sweet potato.  As a weekly treat, fresh berries like blueberries or raspberries, watermelon, and halved skinned seedless grapes.
Crickets are good, silkworms, butterworms, roach nymphs and when he is 12", superworms.
