Question
Hi Jedediah,
Sorry to raise a depressing question here, but, this morning we found 5 injured frogs on the lawn. Over the last 3 weeks frogspawn has been appearing & there must be about 30 frogs in the pond. All seemed to be going well until now! Can you say what it could be please & what we can do to prevent further distress to the rest? Have they been fighting? One has no head but still moving!
Thanks.

Answer
Dear Susan,
thank you for your question.
I think it's very likely that some predator got to the frog, a crow, a cat or maybe a fox. Frogs do fight among each other, but these fights are not bloody and they certainly don't rip or bite off each other's heads. It's not very nice to find something like that, but all frog-eating animals in your neighborhood will see your pond as a good source for prey now, that's just normal. I don't think that there is much you can do to prevent this except maybe by putting a net over the pond to prevent any bigger animals from getting in. But thenthere's the danger of the frogs becoming entangled in the net. I think you should just let things be, at least the frogs have already bred and there will be frogs again in the pond next year.
I hope I was of some help to you
Jennifer
