Gold dust day gecko

Question
QUESTION: Hi Yexalen,

I am looking to buy a gold dust day gecko. I already have a 80 US gallon (65 Canadian gallon) screen terrarium.
It is 30" x 16.5" x 30" and can be put in a vertical or horizontal way. I would like to know if this terrarium is good for that kind of gecko, in which way I should put it and if it is a breed of gecko's that I can take out often.

Thanks a lot;
Olivier

ANSWER: If you can maintain the heat and temperature then the tank will be fine. Put it verticle as the like the height.

No reptile likes or enjoys being handled but this specific kind doesn't tolerate it well.

Good luck

QUESTION: Thanks a lot for the info.
I can maintain the temperature, a veiled chameleon used to live happily in there.
But when you say it doesn't tolerate it well, does that mean I can handle it , but not as much as other kinds or does it mean I cant handle it all?
Also, does it climb? Do I need branches? If it does, does it climb using those "suction cups" some geckos have or does it have nails?

Thanks again;
Olivier

Answer
Hello Olivier, sorry for the late reply. They are not known for biting but they are fragile in the way that they are easily stressed. Handling will stress any lizard it depends on how easily they are stressed adn to what amount. Usually Gold Dust Day Geckos stress easily when handled and it should be avoided for the most part. They are not a gecko you can have out on your shoulder all day.

Yes they climb and will need branches and other vines and plants.

They do have as you say "suction cup" feet. They can stick to verticle surfaces to climb. Such as a wall or glass tank.

Good luck
