QuestionFirstly, I don't know how old my Beardie is: he is about 8" long, including tail, and when he flattenes his body out as much as he can, he is about 2" accross the widest part of his torso. Secondly, I find I cannot buy vegetable matter in small enough quantities to allow for a salad with multiple ingredients and considering my Beardie will usually only take a small bite or maybe two - if he touches the veg at all - what should I buy and how should I encourage him to eat it?
Answer If your store sells by the pound, then you are within your right to take only what you need right out of a tied bunch. Three staple greens and two veggies make a nice beardie salad. And I would say the best three greens is collard, mustard and dandelion greens. Get a few stalks of each. When you get home, dry the leaves as best you can, place them in paper towel and put in a Ziploc bag, removing the stalks and large veins. Change the paper towel every day you use the greens. While he's still a baby, you don't need buy a whole butter nut squash or sweet potato, you can get Gerber firsts babyfood squash and sweet potato. When you serve it dab a bit of the baby food on his mouth, he will lap at it. I haven't met a beardie yet who didn;t love the taste of butternut squash.
