Question
QUESTION: Hi, I fed my leopard gecko 3 wax worms last week which is more than he usally has but I heard 4 was the limit. I got superworms this week. She ate 2 but the next day he didn't eat. I thought he wasn't hungry, but the next day she didn't eat. I thought he had a disease or possibly impaction. Today I got him a wax worm to see if she accepted one.She did. I'm guesing she got addicted. What should I do? I'm really worried. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

ANSWER: Hi Sam,
See why they call wax worms "candy" to the leos?  You need to be tough... is she is in good health and weight, going a few days without eating won't hurt her at all..
We call it "tough love" meaning you can't give in and give her the candy she wants. As I said, a few days of her not eating won't hurt her a bit.
Put the supers in her dish, if she doesn't eat them in 10-15 minutes, take them out..and offer them to her the following day...again, if she doesn't eat them in the time frame, remove the worms...doing this for 3-4 days, she will get the hint..eat or they aren't there.

QUESTION: Hi I don't have a food dish. Lately I have just taken her out of her hides. The supers were big so a person at the pet store says you can cut them up. My gecko will eat food that dosn't move. Should I stop fedding her?

Answer
If the supers are too big for her, that could be why she isn't wanting to eat them. If she will eat non moving food, that's great and you can try cutting the worms...
If she still isn't interested in eating, then remove them as I said in my previous answer.
You will have to figure out if she is refusing because the worms are too big, doesn't want them cut or is looking for more wax worms. I would get more appropriate sized food such as some meal worms or crickets and see if she will eat them.
Any dish that is smooth, such as glass with sides that are about 1/2 inch high can be used as feeding dishes...you want straight sides to prevent the worms from escaping.
