Question
Hi Yexalén, i changed something in my gecko's tank and i dont know whats wrong with her. . . . . . the thing that i had changed was the substrate. i changed it because its was old and very dirty. however as a substrate i replaced the sand with white computer paper, just until im able to go and get more sand. later on my gecko somehow just crawls in her mosit little container. since then she never leaves that area! she even sleeps there! im also shocked that im about to feed her she gets all excited, and pops her head out the container. but when i throw in a cricket she goes back inside. im the one who has to use feeding tongs and hand feed her. but she does eat every meal. . . . . . . . could you help me figure out whats goin on with her. this all happened when i placed white paper inside her tank. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hello Mai, I would never use sand it can be fatal if ingested and leopard geckos will purposely ingest it if they are lacking calcium so scrap the sand idea. I don't think she likes the paper you can try softer paper towels or even better what I use is sold at Petco (I don't know about PetSmart or other pet stores) And its $2.99 for a roll that fits in a ten gallon tank. Never needs replacing. Its a hermit crab background compressed coconut fiber into a carpet looking roll. Its made to velcro the the wall of a tank for hermit crab climbing but I lay it flat for my Leopard Geckos and it works great. It looks natural isn't hard on there feet and is very safe. Cleaning it is easy just take a vacuum or if it gets really bad you can replace it only $3 a roll. Dont use water it will expand and not work again. Let me know how it goes. Good luck! Anything else just ask.
