Question
Is it normal that my fat-tail gecko is greyer than she was and that she is not eating? We've been trying to feed her crickets, even a waxworm for the last week and she wont eat. Is it normal? We figure it comes with the fact that she is ready to shed...

Answer
Hi Natalie, You have come to the right conclusion. She is about to shed. As the old and new skin layers separate in preparation to be shed your gecko will take on a whitish/gray appearance. It is also quite common for geckos to refuse food during this time. She may eat the old skin as it comes off. Check her after the process is finished to make sure that the old skin has also come off her toes and feet. Old tight skin can sometimes be retained on the feet which can lead to the loss of her toes.
