Question
can  i give my russian tortiose tomatoes, gave him a bite and he loves tomatoes i just wanted to make sure he can eat them

Answer
Yes, as long as they are your standard for human consumption tomatoes, but they should be washed with a vegetable wash to remove pesticides and agricultural wax preservative coatings. Tomatoes are a fruit however, and fruit should only be used as a treat to prevent possible fungal infections. They are also watery, and too much watery items in the diet can lead to diarrhea or respiratory infection in tortoises from arid regions. Also, take note that Russian torts hibernate or aestivate 9 months out of the year in the wild, and it is common for most keepers to over feed them.

I recommend you see the russian tortoise care information at anapsid.org or russiantortoise.org for more info on diet.
