QUESTION: Hello Tracie,
I just saw the advice you gave for Bow and I was wondering if you know how he ended up. I have a four month old bearded dragon, Tristan, who seems to be having the same problem. He has been to the vet and they have been flushing his sinuses but there hasn't been much improvement. I currently have 100 W Basking light and a 13.0 exoterra UVB. I'm really desperate and any advice you have would help. I'll attach a picture so you can see what he looks like

ANSWER: Hello Athena,

No, I haven't receive an update yet.
Are you using a fluorescent tube bulb or a compact/coil light from Exoterra?
This brand is not good & the lights emit the incorrect wavelength of UVB which hurt & damage the eyes & health.
I would turn off the light & just use the basking light right now to let his eyes heal up.
Give it a couple of weeks before attempting to put in another UVB.  The best tube UVB lights are either the Reptisun 10 or the Arcadia D3 12%.  You can get them from:

Do his eyes appear to have any discharge coming from them right now?  I didn't notice any.
How is his appetite doing?
You can get some sterile saline solution to help with his eyes.

Let me know how he is doing.

QUESTION: I turned off his light since I found your post and he's doing significantly better. I will definitely get a better light. His appetite has been a little weak but I've been hand feeding him for a couple weeks now. He did have some discharge but it's cleared up. I will definitely get him a better UVB. I am so happy to see him running around and being able to see!!!

ANSWER: Hello Athena,

That is great news that Bow is doing so much better now.  It does take time for the eyes to clear up.  He should be ready to get a new light over him now, if his eyes are back to normal.
At least he is eating a little bit.  You can try some bee pollen to help with his appetite & his immune system, too.

Let me know how he is doing!

QUESTION: Thanks! They are still a little swollen so i don't know if I should wait longer? Its going down slowly and today he ate on his own for the first time. He does seem to have a little trouble finding his food. Do you think he might have had permanent damage? Im going to try and find some bee pollen and see if that helps out. I'm going to attach a picture from today. You are life saver! I really appreciate your help.

Answer
Hello Athena,

He is looking better!  Are you using UVB yet?   Are you using a bright white light for basking right now?
I hope he doesn't have permanent damage!  Poor thing.  Can he see though, have you double checked his vision?
What vitamins are you giving him now & how much calcium does he get?

He sure is a cutie pie!  I am happy to see some improvement.  You can take him outside if he likes that.

Let me know how Tristan is doing.
