Hibernation for reptiles

Question
Hibernation is normally used to stimulate the reptile into breeding mode.  I am not interested in breeding my pet reptiles.  I currently have a 3 year old male leopard gecko, Bailey.  Bailey is my first reptile, I've had him for almost 2 years now.
Is it necessary for reptiles to have a hibernation period?  I live in Tampa, Florida.  Does that make a difference?

Answer
Brumation (reptile semi-hibernation is not necessary for captive reptiles.  We know it, vets no it, but the reptiles don't sometimes.  I've known people in Florida who said their bearded dragon started brumation in August, go figure.  So if your leo doesn't brumate, don't worry, he'll be fine without.
