Question
QUESTION: I have a water dragon and m local pet store said I couldn`t feed them meal worms?  My petstore said water dragons can't digest them is this true?

The ones that look lyke..worms ud find in a garden buh they skinny...

ANSWER: Hi Liz,
Mealworms have a hard outer body so its best to fed fresh shed mealworms.(They are the ones that are whiter in color)Raising your own mealworms is easy and they also have a softer outer body because you feed them better foods such as greens, veggies, etc. If your WD is a baby, I would go with the fresh shed ones or ones you raise yourself. The petstore is wrong in saying you can never feed your WD mealworms though. Superworms, when the WD is big enough are a better choice.  Never feed what is called giant mealworms as they are regular mealworms that have been fed steroids to prevent them from turning into beetles.
You really don't want to feed any insects from your yard as you don't know what diseases they may have or if they have been into some pesticides or fertilizers.  Basically, you don't know where they have been before they came into your yard.
WD can eat earthworms, but again, not from your yard or garden.
Here is a good link to feeding your WD.

QUESTION: Yess lol I know..I love my baby WD ...he's name is "innocent "

Soo ...if they are tiny meal worms its ok..?
I have been feeding him crickets and wax worms

But they crickets that came in this week are way to big..for my baby..soo I didn`t want to feed him just wax worms...

I try to feed him strawberrys and blueberrys ..I smash emm..and he dnt eat it..he will walk in it..but not eat it..

ANSWER: Hi Liz,
A few mealworms that are smaller should be fine..but I would be sure to feed them for at least 24-48 hours before feeding them to your WD..actually, your crickets and superworms also need to be fed the same way prior to feeding them to your WD...if the insects aren't eating good foods, your WD won't get the needed nutrition.
Feed the insects the stems from the greens and veggies you offer your WD...(many WD will not eat fruits, greens or veggies) To see good greens, etc to offer your WD www.iguanaden.org
Do you have other pet stores you can check with for proper sized crickets?  You can also order on line if that's a possibility for you.
Be careful with waxworms as they are very high in fat and when fed too many can cause fatty liver disease.  A few once a week or less is fine. Do you have any bait stores near you?  You can get some earthworms there...you might have to cut them in 1/2 or ask for smaller ones though.
You can also try some of the canned insects that the stores sell...some WD might eat them...others will say NO WAY!!!!

Answer
Hi Liz,
When you buy the mealworms, there will most likely be some that have just shed in the container so those would be the best to feed your WD.  As I said, raising your own on them is very easy...please be sure to feed the meal worms for at least 24 hours before you feed them to your WD...and feed them veggies, dark leafy greens, etc.
I'm not sure where you will be able to get small crickets in your area. You will have to call different pet stores near you.
Yes..live bait fishworms(earthworms) need to be of proper size for your WD. Do get some of the greens that are mentioned on the iguanaden site and see if he will also eat them.
The bate store may have other insects also...or the pet stores.  Please see the link to the WD info I sent earlier to see all the insects they are able to eat.
The insects you feed cannot be any larger than the space between their eyes and should not be longer than their head.
