green anole/bahamian anole

Question
QUESTION: I have two anoles, what i think is a female green anole and a male Bahamian anole and they seem to get along fine, he stays to his stick and she owns the plant (i also have a fat pacific tree frog). I've noticed the green ones been laying eggs but they never hatch, is it an interbreeding thing or just their environment? they have a bark-mulch like substrate with some looser potting dirt for the plant.

ANSWER: Hello Molly,

Hm, well, the green & brown anoles can mate, but from what I have ready it does decrease the fertility rate & there is a lower hatch rate when breeding a green & brown anole.
They do need an incubation temperature of a steady 84 & a humidity of around 80% or so, in order to hatch properly.

QUESTION: I also forgot to ask, the green one, as i noticed with my other one(she died of old age) is that shes starting to get  round knobish bumps along her jaw line. is that normal or a vitamin deficiency? and thanks.

ANSWER: Hello Molly,

That would be metabolic bone disease.  Are you using any UVB lighting for them?  If so, what type & brand is it, a fluorescent tube bulb or a compact/coil light?
How often do you give supplementation such as calcium & vitamins?

QUESTION: oh now i feel bad. I've only been using a 50 watt daylight spot w/UVA combined w/a nightglow lamp and stopped supplementing them a while ago because one of my old lizards just didnt eat when i did. Now that I know, though, i'll go get a UVB and some more supplements and give it another try. Would supplements harm the frog? he eats whatever my lizards leave behind. Thanks loads.

Answer
Hello Molly,

Well, the best UVB is the Reptisun 10 fluorescent tube bulb.  Do not get a Reptiglo 10 tube light, or any compact/coil lights, they just are not very good.  Here is a link for the Reptisun 10 tube bulb:

The supplementation is a hard one I realize.  You can leave a small dish of calcium in the tank & a lot of times they will go lick some when they need it.  You could mix up a little bit with water & use a dropper to get some extra into her for a few weeks to try & get her calcium levels up some right now.

No, the supplements wont hurt your frog.  Do they all seem to get along ok, the anoles & frog?
Usually I don't recommend housing diffrent species because their setups are so different.  How long have they been in the same tank?
