Mini rex behavior change

Question
Hi!  My daughter's mini rex is 4 mo. old.  We love her to pieces, but she is now displaying "grumpy" behavior.  She's indoors in a cage, and we let her out 1-2 hrs. a day.  She is house broken- goes back to her cage to go potty.  She doesn't want us to pick her up - she goes haywire on us.  She also doesn't want to get in her cage when we put alfalfa in it anymore.  We have to try to catch her, it's hard.
Also, she "lunged" at my 12 year old daughter when she tried to shut the cage door for the night and bit her slightly as she jumped past her out the door.

What's going on?  Is there anything we can do to train her better....?  Should we breed her and hope that she calms down after her litter is born?

Please help!  It would kill Stephanie to have to give her up...we aren't quitters of pets, tell us what to do --we're putty in your hands!

Thank you for doing this service for rabbit owners!  What a blessing!

Karen

Answer
Hi Karen,
well what your rabbit is doing is not fair at all and you must try and not let her carry on like this. There two suggestions you could try:
1:you could try and breed her and see if she calms down but i must also warn you, when the litter is born she may also be abit nasty towards you cause she is only protecting her litter.
And 2:you might have to start being firm with her.Everytime she bites you or your daughter, just tap her on the nose or on the bum and say NO THATS NAUGHTY.Dont shout at her just say is firmly like you mean it.When you tap her dont give her one big tap cause rabbits should never feel pain by the owners cause she may start to become weary of you.
Also when she has been naughty cause she hasnt gone into her hutch when she is told, tap her on the nose again when you do finally get her in her hutch and tell her off.Dont let her out the next day either and this will learn her a lesson.
But if she does do as she is told tell her she is a good girl and if possible give her a treat.
You might think it sounds weird by grounding her but believe me rabbits know when they have done wrong and do learn by there mistakes. They arnt as dumb as we think they are.
This may not work straight away but give it time and paitence.
I hope this helps and good luck from Natasha.
