Question
Sorry to ask a question about new born rabbits when I see you have already answered many questions. I am just after some reassurance really. I found a nest this morning on one side of my females cage and it was covered with fur. I didnt want to touch anything but I did see the fur moving and a little body popped out and "looked" at me!!!!. I am just wondering if I should check the babies out or to leave them alone; I am just scared of hurting them! Sorry again but I didnt even realise she was pregnant so this has come as a shock (a pleasant one though!)

Thank you!

Answer
After washing your hands with a mild scented or non-scented soap, dry with a paper towel.  Rub your hands all over the doe to aquire her scent then reach into the nest.  Don't remove any kits just feel around.  Warm, wiggly bodies are alive and well -- cold still ones are dead and need to be removed.  The doe will most likely feed them in the evening when you are not watching so don't panic when she isn't at the nest all the time.
