Question
Hello,
I have 2 Rabbits One is Sophie a holland lop that just turned 3 she is beautiful and excellent pet.  She is trainned and loves attention. she is indoors not it a cage.  Then we have a miniture rabbit that is 7 months old, she is nasty and bites and can hardly pick her up.  We had to put her in a cage because she is just mean.  I don't know how to get her to trust us.  Sophie the oldest one hates the new rabbit and my goal is for them to share one area together instead of one in a cage and one not.  Also sophie's eyes have white spots on the lower parts of them.  I took her to the vet and they said not to worry about it and gave us nothing.  just wondering if there is anything to worry about.
Thanks,
Beverly Lowe

Answer
Dear Beverly,

Are both rabbits spayed?  This is the first necessary step to getting them to get along, though it is much more difficult to bond two females than it is to bond a pair of opposite sex.  We always recommend allowing the rabbit to choose his/her own mate, to reduce the chance of fighting.  Sometimes rabbits just will *not* like each other.  Just like humans!

For complete information on how to bond rabbits (after spaying), please see:

I can't see the white spots on the lower part of Sophie's eye to give you an opinion, but if you send a picture to dana@miami.edu I might be able to help.  Some rabbits have irises with unpigmented areas, and if this is the case, it's nothing to worry about.  But without seeing it, I can't know for sure.

Hope this helps.
