QuestionMy friends rabbit was killed in her backyard. She has a few cats. One of them is very jealous of the rabbit. There are also possums that come at nite. The rabbits neck was torn open. Do you think the cat might have done this? The rabbit lived there about 3 mo. The cats have been there a long time. She had just gotten another rabbit, so now were kinda scared if was the cat or the possums that got the rabbit. Do cats kill other pets like that? Anything that will help; we thank you. Christy
AnswerGenerally cats don't kill rabbits, unless they are small, and are running from them. More commonly we see raccoons kill rabbits, but they tend to tear them apart once they start.
It's possible the cat killed the rabbit, certainly cats will go for the jugular vein. But then again, another predator could have gotten in and killed him.
An article that describe the different possible scenarios is http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/hazards.html The second paragraph is the one that will likely be of most use to you.
I am sorry about the bunny.
