Question
I have 3 6 week old dutch babies, they are being given to friends on saturday 9th December and i am worried that they are not matured enough. I still notice them feeding from their mother and this concerns me that they are not fully ready to be seperated. What do you think? Is there are danger of seperating them now, or will it be fine?
Thanks.
Ella.

Answer
Moms usually start weaning them around 4 weeks. At six weeks these dutch should be fine. I usually wait to wean them until 8 weeks old- but of course this is with my dwarf breeds. I let my New Zealands go at 6 weeks. Dutch are in the middle of the weight scale so I am sure they will be fine. you just have a few lazy babies that want to keep nursing mom as long as she will let them. :)
