Question
my boyfriend & i have 3 rabbits, 1 female & male rex and 1 female unknown breed. the pure bred bunnies had a litter of 3 but they died. the unknown breed and the male rex had a litter 2 weeks ago and all 6 are still healthy & alive. the female rex had her 2nd litter last sun but only had 1. is this normal? why is she having such small litters? is this just their particular type of breed?

Answer
Danni, No, Rex usually have good sized litters and are good mother's. She may be older, or she may have some reproductive problems. Hard to tell. If you like the Rex fur, and want more like them, save a baby doe out of the litter that the male Rex sired with the other unidentified breed doe. When she is about 6 months old, breed her back to her father (This is done all the time with rabbits and is not a genetic risk). 50% of the babies in her litter will have the Rex fur, and should be pretty. then you can select the ones you'd like to keep longer term. Since you obviously want to raise rabbits, perhaps you may want to think of giving the unproductive Rex doe to a child as a pet, as she doesn't seem to be appropriate for use as a breeder.  Hope this is useful, and good luck!  Steve
