Question
I have indoor rabbits that never go outside and they have suddenly developed a flea infestation. I have use 8in1 small animal flea spray, which kills the fleas while wet but stops working when dry. My problem is that I am allergic to this product and still have a huge flea problem in my rabbits. I was looking at a website that sells and all natural powder with the following ingredients: Diatomaceous Earth, Sage, Eucalyptus, Yellowdock Root, Fennel Seed, Rosemary Leaf. Are these ingredients safe for my rabbit? Also, should I be concerned that since the fleas have infested my rabbits they have begun to have other problems, like large amounts of ear wax and diahrea?

Answer
The problem with using the natural powder is that some of these are not good for rabbits if they ingest it.  I would not want them to ingest diatomaceous earth, it can cut up their intestines.

There are other treatments that may work for you, you can find information at http://homepage.mac.com/mattocks/morfz/rabrefs.html#fleas

I use Advantage, it works well for me and it kills the fleas.

Try to find out where the fleas are coming from, and see if you can kill them off in the house.

Diarrhea may or may not be related to the flea spray, and the wax may be wax or it could be ear mites - http://homepage.mac.com/mattocks/morfz/rabrefs.html#mites
