Question
Hi, I have a three year old male rabbit who is fixed and litter trained. He is usually very well behaved when he is running around the house, however lately he has started peeing on one of my couches. He's done it several times, and I'm not sure how to get him to stop doing it.

Answer
Hi Motria,

well, you don't give me much information that would help me identify what it might be, but generally when a rabbit's behavior changes, it usually is a reaction to something that is different than it used to be.  Rabbits are creatures of habit and like generally set routines.  If changes occur that alter the routine in some way or ways they don't like, sometimes they make it know they are not happy with things.

Is he full-blown peeing on the couch, or just leaving a little to mark it?  If it's a full bathroom kind of thing, I'd put a litterpan up there for the immediate future.  If he's marking, you need to think about what is going on lately that may make him want to mark that particular area.

Does it smell like another rabbit or animal?  Or person he doesn't like?  Is he not supposed to be on the couch in the first place, or has that changed lately?  Is he getting the same amount of attention from you and others lately, good quality time he is normally used to getting?

Feel free to write back with more info, I'd like to help you pinpoint what might be causing it.
