Question
My rabbit had babies just over 2 weeks ago she made her own nest for them on top of the straw, i have noticed that the straw is now quite damp underneath them, can i take them out of their nest and put it back together again so i clean it? I find i cannot check on the babies while the mother is in the cage as she gets really agitated is this normal? When the babies start eating dried food, how will i be able to give the mother her normal veg without the babies eating it? I have read the babies are not supposed to eat veg until they are older. By the way this is the best site i have found for answers to the many questions I had and have been pleased so far that we have not lost any of the babies due to your help.

Answer
hi jane-firstly take the mother out of the cage and give her some titbits to eat  so she is happy.
firstly soil your hands in the nest material, this will get rid of your human smell and the doe will not mind.
remove all the babies and take out the damp nesting material if there is some of mothers fur i would leave this in-put in fresh nesting material and replace the babies-at 2 weeks old they should have there eyes open.
replace the mother back in with them.
i usually start and feed a fine bran food this is ok for babies -i would keep mum on a dry rabbit mix until they grow a bit bigger but soon they should be coming out the nest and running about.
keep me informed
