QuestionHi Dana,
Thanks in advance for taking time to help me with this question! I have rescued a male broken black rabbit who was turned loose in my neighborhood. He is healthy and pretty independent but will take food from my hand although doesnt like to be held but I can pet him although he doesnt hold still very long. I'm wondering if he would like a companion - I've heard males tend to be aggressive towards each other but was wondering if he would do well with a mini-lop doe? Don't know if the difference in size would be a problem and I believe the male I have is fixed. Thanks for advice. I have a mud room off the back of my house. plenty of room for him to hop around and get exercise and I did have a friend help me convert a buffet into a hutch. He seems to really enjoy it and it is totally protected from the elements. Thanks!!!
AnswerDear Beth,
Before you consider getting him a pal, he must be neutered. Without that, bonding with either a male or a female will be pretty much impossible. Please read:
www.rabbit.org/health/spay.html
and find a good rabbit vet here:
www.rabbit.org/vets
Once he's snipped and healed, you can contact your local rabbit rescue group:
www.rabbit.org/chapters
and find out about setting up some "blind dates" with eligible, spayed females they've rescued. Bunnies are not always easy to bond, so it's important to let him pick, and then followup with careful bonding techniques, as described in these articles:

Bless you for giving the little wanderer a home. Good luck!
Dana
