Question
My 5yo daughter lifted the ramp in Bun's cage and it dropped on Bun's head and now one of the ears stays flopped over like a lop (which she is not).  What should we do?

Answer
Hi Dana,

from what you have written, it may have sprained a muscle in the ear.  If your rabbit is teeth crunching (heavy loud grinding of her teeth) she is in pain and you need to get to a vet right away.

I would recommend getting to your vet in any case to have her looked over and tell the vet what happened so that he can make sure it's not a serious injury.  It's always best to get a professional's opinion when there is a physical injury.

Rabbits are fairly delicate compared to cats and dogs.  You'll want to watch young children around them more closely than if they were around dogs and cats.  Maybe this is one task that needs to be delegated to mom or dad at this point.  I've had many sad questions from people regarding young children issues with rabbits.

In any case, I hope your daughter is okay and isn't feeling too upset about it.  It was an accident and the bunny isn't in a life-or-death situation.  You should take your rabbit to your regular good rabbit vet, though, just to be safe and to hear if ti will heal back normal on its own.  If you don't already have one, go to:

and find a House Rabbit Society-recommended rabbit vet in your area.

Write back anytime.  Lee
