Question
Hi, my sons dwarf bunnie who is 12 weeks old has a irritated eye.. its red, weeping and seems to have a puss bubble in the inner corner... could this be conjunctivitis and if so what do i do about it? Thank you!

Answer
Hi,

it sounds form what you describe to be some kind of infection.  Especially since he's a new rabbit to you (only 12 weeks old) I'd take him in to a good rabbit vet for an overall check-over (ie a wellness exam) and have them spend time examining the eye.  Every new pet should be given a once-over by a vet to make sure they are okay, and you know what you're dealing with right away off the bat.

Key is going to a vet well-knowledgeable about your animal, not all vets are rabbit vets.  So start here:

www.rabbit.org/vets/vets.html

to find a House Rabbit Society recommended vet near you.

Rabbit vets will get your rabbit healthier, faster, and therefore, for less expense, because they know rabbits and examine/do surgery on rabbits on a regular basis.  They don't waste time and money on things they aren't sure will work.

I would get him in as soon as physically possible to prevent the infection from becoming harder to treat and also threatening the eye.
