my rabbits pulled her fur out

Question
my female rabbit has pulled lots of her fur out and placed it in the corner of her hutch.shes is really bald now on her sides.can you tell me why she would do this?

Answer
That usually means she is either pregnant or thinks she is pregnant. If she has not had access to a male in over 35 days, she is probably going through a false pregnancy. This is where her hormones trick her into thinking she is pregnant. This can cause a female to make a nest (including plucking fur to line it) and/or change in temperament. If she has been around a male (Even if the male is in a wire cage right next to her or if her cage has any wire and he was allowed to be around the cage. Rabbits have been known to mate through the wire), plan on babies.

To prevent further real or false pregnancies, and to prevent often fatal overian and uterine cancer, the best bet is to get her spayed.
