Question -
Can rabbits with sore hocks be slaughtered for meat.I have a doe with sore hocks that has stopped breeding. She had raised several litters in the past with this condition.

Answer -
Unless the sore hocks are frankly infected and supperating - or you think she might have a systemic infection - yes, you can consume the meat.  In a case like this I keep that meat for myself and am sure to cook it very well.

Answer
Sore hocks can be just that sore hocks - inflamation, open sore that bleeds easily, scabs.  Or sore hocks that change into a full blown infection - where you see pus in the wounds and the rabbit is sickly - with a feaver.  Most sore hocks are of the first type - this is caused by many factors ,  bad gene, old cage flooring, no resting board, dirty resting board, etc.

If the doe is not sickly - is eating well and is not sad, then i would say yes, you can consume the meat - but your family not for sale.

You could try putting her on a hard floor with a thick bed of wood shavings - wash her hocks very well with warm soap and water daily and dry with a clean towel.  Some clear up on a hard floor.
