Question
Hey, um i have 4 baby rabbits, they are already 9 weeks old and I just want to know how old do they have to be to sell them?

Answer
Hi

Rabbits can be weaned from their mothers at 8 weeks old.  I then like to keep the babies all together for one week to help them adjust to life without their mom.  Anytime after 8 weeks though they can go to their new homes.  Before you ship them off make sure you do a general health check.  Always check their ears for any signs of scratching or digging, any signs of mites or crustations, check their teeth for proper alignment.  Make sure they don't have any malocclusions in their teeth.  Make sure that they aren't showing any signs of diarrhea.  Check their vent area and make sure that it looks normal and that there is no swelling and no sores.

Make sure whenever you sell a bunny that you always interview the new prospective owner.  Make sure that they want the bunny as a family pet and not to feed to their snake.  Instruct them on the proper care of a bunny.  Make sure that they have a suitable cage where the bunny can lay completely out as well as stand completely upright on his hind legs.  Tell them that the bunny needs to have unlimited grass type hay at all times.  If they aren't willing to make a commitment to do all of this then it is probably better to look for a more suitable home.

Last but not least, never offer your babies free to good homes.  This is only asking for trouble.  It is an invitation for snake dealers, or scientists to come in, bring their darling little children and tell you just how bad little Joey has always wanted a bunny.  Use your best judgement.

Good luck

Pam
