Found a rabbit

Question
I was visiting my parents this weekend when my father found that my cat had cornered a baby rabbit in our yard.  He brought it in the house to keep the cats from catching it, but now we are unsure of what to do with it.  We have fed it grass and lettuce.  I am thinking of keeping it as a pet, but am wondering if that is a good idea for either the rabbit or myself.  If we release it, when and where is a good place to do so?  Is it's mother looking for it?  Will a wild rabbit survive as a house pet?  Please answer ASAP.  Thank you so much,

Answer
It is actually against the law to keep wild rabbits, and because they are wild, they don't do well as house pets.  If you can find the nest that baby was in, you can put him back in there.  If not, you can try to raise him until he is old enough to release (which is at 3-4 weeks), or try to find a wildlife rehabilitator to take him in.

You can read more about wild rabbits at http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/orphan.html to determine the age and if he is old enough to release.

Or, you can find a lost of rehabbers at http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact.htm

The mother will be looking for it, but you likely won't see her.
