Question
yesterday I noticed my rabbit was not breathing correctly - I took her to the vet - he gave me the medication of Gentocin and sterile water and told me to put her in her cage - put the medication in a nebulizer and let her breath it for 10 min for 3 times a day for 5 days  - making sure I kept a cover off the cage so she could breath the meds- I did this  starting at 11:00 yesterday and then after work at 5:00 when i got home I started the nebulizer again and within 5 minutes my rabbit was no longer breathing....can you tell me if the vet prescribed the correct medication to use?  Also I read up on Gentocin and see that its to be used on dogs and cats.  One more question.  When he did an x-ray he told me that one of her lungs were already filled up and she had one complete clear lung - did the mist from the sterile water then fill the other lung 1/2 way when i did it at 11:00 and then when I started it at 5:00 she couldn't take anymore??  I'm so sick to my stomach over this and trying to find out some answers.  Thank you

Answer
Hi Bon,

Scary situation!

I'm in no way qualified to provide veterinary advice to others.  However, pneumonia in rabbits is a very touch and go situation, they can worsen and die very very quickly.

You should immediately take your rabbit back to the vet and if anything else happens you should at least ring your vet straight away (regardless of what time it is) a moment is sometimes the fine line between life and death.

Good luck.
